Just today, reading the website Republic, I find out who has died Whose Oscar, one of the last journalists in the old guard.
When "Lolo" Jones, Richard Centeno and I came to this newspaper, in the early 90's, Whose was the editor who came by evenings and strong arming the next day's front pages. It was very nice, but everyone recognized his great ability to write headlines. The charapa Whose Jorge Egoavil said was a "genius of journalism." The three boys

The cover, we were told, was the work of Whose. He was in charge of choosing the phrase, witty or blunt, it would appear the next day at all kiosks.
arrived very early one Sunday newspaper, came from ticket-and I saw the editing table covered with papers, plenty of cigarette butts and empty coffee cups. There was no one so I joined. Then I discovered amazed how arming each page of the newspaper. And I found a corner cut out small leaves which Cuya, indeed, was rehearsing the cover of the next day.
picked up some leaves from the ground, along with other they were on the desk of Whose and then checked with reverent awe that this man short and fat, rehearsed over and over again to find the owner should be. The process to build a striking cover, even in the days when no news was in those papers.
Since then, whenever I could get the newspaper early in appropriating these leaflets containing the style of work was, in my opinion, the best newspaper headline of our environment. Then came computers and Whose stopped using these papers.
sincerely sorry for this loss. I think the daily Republic will not be the same without the headlines Whose Oscar.
